Dak Mi 3 Hydropower Plant invested by the Vietnam Urban and Industrial Zone Development Investment Corporation (IDICO) is located on Dak Mi River, the upstream of Vu Gia - Thu Bon River System, in Phuoc Chanh Commune, Phuoc Son District, Quang Nam Province.
The plant consists of two units with total capacity of 63 MW and the average annual output of more than 200 million kWh.
The power is transmitted to the national grid through the 274 Transmission Line with total length of 22.1 km, connected from the 220 kV substation of Dak Mi 3 Hydropower Plant to the 220 kV substation of the Dak Mi 4A Hydropower Plant and then connected to the 500 kV Thanh My Substation.
According to Mr. Nguyen Van Dat, General Director of IDICO Corporation, the investment in hydropower projects as well as Dak Mi 3 Hydropower project of IDICO has been supported enthusiastically from Vietnam Electricity, National Load Dispatch Centre, Electricity Power Trading Company and relevant organizations.
The project was started in April 2014, with total investment of more than VND 1,300 billion, considered as one of the projects with high economic efficiency among the hydropower plants on Vu Gia – Thu Bon River System.
In order to reach high economic efficiency, Power Engineering Consulting Joint Stock Company 2 (nổ hũ ), as Design Consultant, has helped the Owner optimize the project by modifying the technical design that previously made by another party, then implementing construction drawing for the project. Thanks to nổ hũ ’s design solutions applying new technology in the world, the total investment of the project was reduced by nearly VND 200 billion (11%) while the installed capacity was increased by 7MW (12.5%), leading the increase in annual electricity output by 13.3 million kwh (6.7%) and the construction schedule shortened to 6 months ahead in comparison with the previous technical design.
The Piano Spillway of Dak Mi 3 Hydropower Plant
The outstanding feature of the project is the piano - styled free spillway, with 144m in length, 34m in height, especially with the head over crest of 5m. Up to date, it is the piano spillway with the highest head under operation in Vietnam.
The successful connection of Dak Mi 3 Hydropower Plant has contributed considerably to the Central Power Grid in the dry season, bringing many benefits for the Owner and Power Sector.
In addition, when the plant is put into operation, the objectives of exploiting the combined economic, social and defense benefits will be fulfilled, and socio-economic development in the mountainous districts of Quang Nam Province will be enhanced.
